i went through today and took pictures of his bike and him. he is currently in room 13a16 at ohsu and would love to have people drop in and visit. i'm gonna try and tell everyone what all i heard. for those of you that werent there the accident happened before the 15mph corner, and after the first drop. he was really pushing it and called out to pass on the left, while going through the second or third right turn. then he hit from the fragments i found today a silver lexis. he was knocked out for a while and regained consciousness. but he was twitching and he wasnt looking all to well. a ambulance was called and he was taken to ohsu where he went into icu after like ten hours i guess or so (someone who knows i would like a correction, and those that also heard anything concrete please add on). he has lost 20 hours of memories and only remembers last being on the hill talking to sage. then he remembers waking up in the hospital.

jesus, thank god he didn't take a chunk out of his chest with that piece of tubing that's been hammered into a blade.

hate to be a downer, but there are some serious safety concerns with this bike. I'm kinda disappointed that someone ok'd this to be ridden.

the story on the welds were that was his own work. he was just so stocked to get to riding the thing that he didnt take the time to look for the actual nuts for the tires. and as for the non air tires. thats a no. he rides air tires. i'm gonna go and buy me a set of no flat non air tires myself for my assacre. but otherwise the bike is rideable till you need to turn. then it bottums out. the tires will never be able to be taken off cause they are welded on and the rest of it we are going to salvage as much of the "probe" as we called it for his next assacre. and i'll be working on it and not ben so ya dont expect welding to happen

yeah, but it takes way more time to grind the welds off than just unbolting them..

and yeah...you'll need to chop the axle below the welds and pop and new one in....not exactly the best design work there boys.

and sharp/pointy/bent, that should probably be capped, wrapped, or otherwise made more death proof, i'm not sure if you're familiar with a "core sample" (not in scientific terms), but it's a fairly common injury throughout different facets of bike stupidity. thats why polo mallets are capped, you can't race in a velodrome without bar plugs or capped bars, you put bar plugs on just about any bike, ect.

On the way up the elevator I was talking to him about putting some caps on those. Poor dude.  What's his prognosis?  Is he healing up okay?

There was some talking going on at the pile before he bombed that night people said what they could to try and convince him. I talked to him about the no brakes concept, the steel rods on the front that would bury deep enough to puncture an internal organ, and the fact that the rear bearings where basically non existent. The rear wheel would flop from one side to the other. Props for having the "guts" to bomb the hill on that thing. Mostly I could care less about what people want to do to themselves, but something should be said when someone is endagering others who have tried to make the best decisions regarding their safety.

Glad it wasn't worse, and that he didn't hurt anyone else.

i will state again. the welding was ben. not anyone else and the only reason was cause he wanted to get out there and bomb on it.

So it had a trashed rear hub that was welded on.

I'm finding it really hard to be sympathetic.

I know, as a kid, you post photos like this to show off "oh man, look how fucked up the bike is! Imagine what it did to the car! I can't believe he survived that crash because the bike barely did!".

But really, I can't tell if the bike was actually damaged in a crash or if it always looked that shitty. Frankly I'm going with the latter. It looks like a leper welded that crap together with his teeth while blacked out on a meth overdose.  And no, I'm not talking about the physical welds. It's the whole damn thing.

I hope he got some sense knocked into him, else he should do something really stupid and ruin zoobomb for the rest of us.

Sorry for being an asshole. It's meant to be tough love. I'm glad to hear he's doing better. And hopefully he learned from his mistakes. Now someone teach him what brakes are and i don't mean shoes. (Rabbit's tallbike of course being the exception).
